Chief Pleas is Sark's parliament, comprised of democratically elected Conseillers, none of whom are remunerated for this role. Conseillers sit on selected committees and work to develop and administer the legislation and regulations of the island. Chief Pleas meetings are conducted by the Speaker of Chief Pleas, a separate role to that of the Conseiller. Each Conseiller serves a term of four years, with elections being held every two years, at which half of the Conseiller seats are re-elected.
